Versions, upgrades and removal¶
Upgrades¶
GRN.CLOUD maintains each managed application and upgrades it to the latest version. An upgrade is deployed automatically. You do nothing, and your settings stay as they are.
During an upgrade the Health Status of the application reads Progressing, and
Healthy again when the new version runs. The History tab of the application in the
console lists every deployment with its revision.
Automatic deployment¶
An application is always deployed automatically. Three things follow:
| What happens | Result |
|---|---|
| You change the settings of the application | The change is deployed, usually in less than a minute |
| GRN.CLOUD publishes a new version | The new version is deployed |
| Someone changes a resource of the application by hand | The change is reverted within seconds |
Change the settings, not the resources
A manual oc edit or oc scale on a resource of a managed application is undone. Make
the change in the settings of the application - see
Change the settings.
What you change and what you leave¶
Part of the Application |
Who changes it |
|---|---|
spec.source.helm.valuesObject - the settings |
You |
spec.source.repoURL, path, chart, targetRevision - the application and its version |
GRN.CLOUD |
spec.syncPolicy - automatic deployment |
GRN.CLOUD |
spec.destination - the project it runs in |
GRN.CLOUD |
A change outside the settings can stop upgrades of your application.
Go back to earlier settings¶
Set the values back in the YAML tab and save. The earlier settings are deployed like any other change.
To go back to an earlier version of the application itself, ask support.
Remove an application¶
An application from the shop ends with its subscription: cancel it in the
shop, and the application is removed ten minutes after the
order line ended. An application you deployed from a managed template in the Developer
Catalog ends when you delete its Application in the GitOps page: the project it created
goes with it, and its order line in the shop ends within the hour. Neither keeps a backup
for you: make your own before you delete.
Deleting an Application you wrote yourself does not remove the data
For an Application of your own (your chart, your repository), Delete Application
in the console removes the Application object only. The project of the application,
its volumes and their data can stay behind, and still count against your quota. To have
them removed, ask support.
